Converter Magic for Harry Potter Movie

An interesting turn of events occurred when the film production team at Watford needed to transmit their footage back to their parent company in USA. They built a nice room in the middle of a field and mounted their satellite.Then they discovered the unit only operated on 60Hz 120VAC. A small amount of magic later and we provided a 6KVA single phase frequency converter unit to do the job - via our agent Claude Lyons - and millions of fans were happy.

Emergency Lighting for Whisky Distillery

When a well known whisky manufacturer decided to build a large modern storage facility, they turned to Effekta for help to ensure a constant supply of lighting to be able to safely maintain the facility 24/7.

The project involved six warehouse storage units, each capable of holding 50 thousand barrels of whisky, built into the Scottish hillside at Overton - with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. We liaised with the consultants Blythe & Blythe, together with NG Bailey to supply 20KVA units to each storage warehouse.

Each unit operates using a night switch input to inhibit the unit's output when the building is not manned. Technically there were current limitations which meant we had to deliver a unit which had a very good input charger module - power factor corrected to 0.98PF and a low input current distortion. In addition there was a fault clearance requirement to allow any one load path to trip its breaker while still running the rest of the load. The units were supplied with 10 year life front access batteries in battery cubicles.

Frequency Converter for Laser Surgery

A practice in Harley street purchased a frequency converter to run the latest state of the art laser kit from the USA. We supplied a 4.8KVA unit 115VAC 60Hz through our agent, Continuous Power International ( part of the Chloride group).

Industrial UPS for Pharmaceutical Production

Eli Lilly, Glaxo Smith Cline and Merck Sharpe and Dohme all use our Industrial UPS units to run their process control systems - any failure of these could cause enormous cost through loss of production. Supplied via our agents, most of the units are customised to specific requirements, with high IP ratings, long back-up times, multiple power sources or similar. We have packaged them to suit available footprints for the UPS units as well as the battery packs.
